I’m so in love with this poem. It came to me while enjoying wonderful brunch during a layover in DC on my way to my parents home in TN for Thanksgiving. I had a plate of sensational pancakes topped with butter. It brought back wonderful memories that I wanted to capture in a poem.

It sounded like the crinkling of paper or the pitter-patter of rainfall. The staccato nature of the noise was just broken enough to disrupt my REM cycle. My eyes opened slowly and I groggily rolled over on my twin mattress trying to make out shapes and shadows in the dark.
